Are you supposed to eat the skin on green onions?

Everytime I chop up some green onions, sometimes the out skin comes off. Is it edible?Are you supposed to eat the skin on green onions?
Yeah, it's edible but it can be a bit tough, so I usually toss it if it peels off while I'm chopping.Are you supposed to eat the skin on green onions?
It's all skin, but if you mean the very filmy first or second layer - no - it's the same as the other layers (and edible) but the quality's not so good. Every once in a while I find one where the skin can be left on but usually the very outer layer comes off.
I always peel the outer skin layer and cut off the roots before eating a green onion. Are you talking about the outer layer? Is it white and green? As long as it isn't brown and paperish in feel then it is edible.
