What are the common causes of cracked skin on the heels?

Lately the skin on my heels (both feet) has been cracking, some of the cracks going quite deep and hurting to walk on. I've been taking care to keep my feet dry and warm but this doesn't seem to have alleviated the problem. Anyone know what could be causing it? Will a daily application of E45 cream likely do the trick? What are the common causes of cracked skin on the heels?
Soak your feet and pumice them, then smother with E45 wrap in cling film and put socks over, do it before you go to bed and in the morning your feet will be lovely and smooth. Trust me this really worksWhat are the common causes of cracked skin on the heels?
I'm not a expert but it's either from lack of moisture or infection.

I have really sweaty feet compared to everyone else around me and I've had nothing wrong with my feet but the smell.

I think if you keep it moisturized but don't let it dry over a long period of time because it might make it worse then i should heal away.

In the mean time I recommend wearing lots of socks for the pain and keepign sweat

hope this has been helpful
Yes, it's painful. Skin dries out as you get older and I started to notice this problem from about 45 onwards. I use Scholl Heel Repair cream which is very effective, but now I make sure I keep my feel well moisturised when going to bed each night. If the cracks are open and deep use some germolene to take the pain away - stings at first but works wonders within half an hour!
it can be caused by many things, dryness, heat, as someone mentioned the shower...if not washed frequently..and so on.

the cream will help yes...if you have aloe or vit e that will help too and help heal the sore cracks...when you put the cream on and or the aloe or vit e .. put some socks on...to keep the moisture in...do this everyday....at start of day and bedtime...it should ease up....
vaseline will do the job.

but also, its because it's lacking air and moisture, so use a foot stone to remove the dry skin, apply some vaseline each night before you go to bed, and walk bare feet as much as you can.

it from walking on hot ground. somtimes it can be ages b4 the results come but they do. do not moursturise the skin because it will cause more pain

athletes foot, if multiple people use the same shower as you, you may want to invest in a pair of shower sandals.
rub some baby oil on them and wear socks till they heal.. i used elmers glue on my cracked heels.. and that helped right away.. cool down feeling : )
A little bit of vaseline each evening.

It's just too much walking, that's all.
